"I am not a number!"

Down The Tubes have a look at 9 minutes of the new prisoner series, which looks a bit like this:

Really not sure what to make of this, as it goes. I adore the original series, and I've been hoping the proposed remake will do it justice, but they look like they're fucking around with the basic formula too much ("humanising" No. 2?). Still, it may actually be bloody good, so, when it hits these shores, I'll be giving it a watch.

WTF?!

So, anyone who does actually read this blog (and I can't imagine there'd be many) will have noticed the new banner and domain name.

What's it all about? Well, it's simply a case of that I wasn't happy with the Dream Nation name for this blog. It didn't feel like it fit any more, so, rather than start a new blog from scratch (which, given some of the dodgy early entries probably would be the better option...), I decided to attach a domain name to it. Things have been really building for me, too, lately, so it seemed like a good time to get this all sorted out. Simple. Oh, and I updated my Twitter background, too. Yeah, I'm a pretentious git. Sue me.

You may notice a new addition to the Current Projects section over on the right there, too. It's the cover to Accent UK's PREDATORS, which is due to appear next year, and features a strip called Just Like You, written by myself and drawn by Bryan Coyle. More on that as the publication date draws nearer. Also, something quite big later this week.

Marvel Man copyright Marvel...?

When I read the news that Marvel had bought Marvel Man (or Miracle Man, if you prefer) over at Down The Tubes, I actually thought it was a joke. But no, it's official: Marvel have bought Marvel Man and are bringing him back into print.

Miracle Man has a pretty convoluted legal history, which, frankly, I'm not getting into here (you can see the short version here and the longer version here), but this announcement is... Well, it's something that still seems like a massive wind up.

Still, there's this rather nice promo image from Marvel's EIC Joe Quesada...

Remember, though, if Cowboys aren't your bag, Accent UK's 2008 anthology, ROBOTS, is also still available (order code: MAR083379). Featuring many of the same contributors as western, Robots is 204 pages of mechanical goodness, priced $15.99 (or £8.50). And it also features a piece called Loose Ends from me and Bryan Coyle. Which I had to plug somewhere...

You can see the Newsarama review of Robots here. Me and Bryan didn't get namechecked in that one, but it's still worth a read.

Start spreading the word about these two books. They're well worth it.

Finally...

...The Project is starting to come together. It feels like forever and a day since I started it, but it's looking more and more like it's going to see the light of day at long last.

What is The Project? Well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? Hopefully, though, it'll be out there for you to sample in the very near future, but that's all I can say right now. If I can get my act together and get the damn thing written, of course, which is looking like a pipe dream at the minute...

However, come Monday, there's going to be one or two wee changes to this here blog...

Henry Rollins featuring The Techno Viking (Steve Porter remix)

This is Henry Rollins' anti-techno rant put over a techno dance track... Yeah, it sounds like it should be shit, but it's actually not. Especially with the rather inspired choreography of the Techno Viking in the video there...

Only in Japan...

...could they conceive of building a 59 feet tall Gundam.

And then build it.

And then, they turned it on...

You can see more of this - and a video - at the Flickr Blog.

"Want to test my Jaguar skills?"

Well, it's time to wrap up "unofficial ninja week" on this here blog with an entry about one of the greatest characters in cinematic history...

Anyone who's ever seen Godfrey Ho's Ninja Terminator will know about the utter coolness of Jaguar Wong, quite possibly the coolest fucker to ever swagger across the screen of a Kung Fu film.

However, you should never mess with the mans suit...

Jaguar Wong is "played" by Jack Lam. I say "played" because the footage of him in Ninja Terminator was spliced in from another film entirely. However, the genius of Godfrey Ho resulted in the creation of a brilliant character, that really should've been spun off into a whole series of movies.

With confidence squared and the arrogance to match, Jaguar Wong is also pretty handy in a fight, as you can see from his final battle with Tiger Chan ("played" by Hwang Jang Lee)...

I really have no idea why Tiger Chan is wearing that wig. I'm sure there's some subtlety's to the script that I'm not picking up on there... But, hey, it's a Godfrey Ho film, and the man is an undisputed cinematic genius...

Ninja Squad!

So, when Godfrey Ho was splicing together another film, he must've asked himself "What's better than a film about a ninja? Why, it can only be a film about a squad of ninjas!"

I just love the fact that they've actually got the word "ninja" on their headbands, just in case you were to confuse them with dentists when they're kicking your ass...

Godfrey Ho + Ninjas = Awesome

Using his notorious cut-and-paste technique, Godfrey Ho managed to give us Ninja The Protector and Ninja Terminator, both "starring" the rather excellent Richard Harrison. However, he didn't stop there. In total, he knocked out some 90 films in his career, 40 of which had 'ninja' in the title. Here's a couple more...

"Golden Ninja Warrior! Women fighting each other in scenes breathtaking violence!"

"Ninja Thunderbolt! An international ninja conspiracy that almost succeeds!"

"It's full of stars..."

Apparently, some people don't believe that Godfrey Ho could piece together a masterpiece of modern cinema, so, to those people, I say watch this clip and tell me that this isn't something David Mamet would be proud of writing...

Ninjas - Godfrey Ho style!

Unofficial Ninja Week continues here. The "Ed Wood" of Hong Kong Cinema, Godfrey Ho cannot put a foot wrong as far as I'm concerned...

Again, "starring" Richard Harrison and the rather brilliantly named Bruce Stallion, we have Ninja Dragon...

Here's another Godfrey Ho directed "masterpiece", but this time without Richard Harrison...
