Socials

It was only supposed to be a short break from social media. A couple of weeks, at most.

Three months on, and I still haven't logged back in.

It's looking increasingly like I won't be doing it any time in the near future, either.

I should point out that it's got nothing to do with Twitter's new owner - in fact, I'm actually having FOMO because I want to watch the shitshow that it's becoming unfold in real time. It's also nothing to do with the Ad Delivery App that is Instagram being...well, broken (seriously, what's going on with that?).

So, why, then?

Well, at the risk of this turning into Yet Another "I Quit Social Media And My Life Is Better" Post, it's just a case of me being happier being away from it all. Turns out there is some truth to all those articles and blog posts that get rolled out every now and then about quitting social media. Who would've thought?

I could wax lyrical here (or as lyrical as my limited prose skills will allow) about how I've cut something that was becoming toxic out of my life, and how much better I feel mentally, but, honestly, it's all been said before by people who've already trod this path, and all I can do is follow them, and add: maybe consider trying it...? If you want to, that is.

I'm not sure what happens next. I've dusted off my Mastodon account, on the off chance I decide to jump back on somewhere when I've got something to plug or I just want to...re-connect with the world, but, taking a quick look at the feed on there and realising it's pretty much a Twitter clone at the minute, I'm on the fence about going back to it at all.

Whatever the case, I think it's the first step in a larger change that's coming, but what that'll be, I honestly don't know.

Hopefully, it'll be something fun.
