The Mighty Colin Smith has resurrected Too Busy Thinking About My Comics, and has apparently taken leave of his senses in the process, as he's asked me to contribute another guest post...
After a brief conversation on Twitter, Colin asked if I'd be interested in writing something about things I wish I'd known when I was starting out, seven specific things that I really wish someone had told me way back when, and saved me a few headaches.
I'm always a little reluctant to open myself up to things like this, because I'm afraid someone I've worked with in the past will call me out on something (even though the first point on the list is about it being OK to make mistakes, as long as you acknowledge and learn from them - which is pretty much the mantra I live by these days). That said, though, I could've said a lot worse...
I actually found doing the piece pretty cathartic and a good exercise to re-orient myself, for want of a better term, if I'm being honest. There's also a ton more stuff I could've added to it, too (like "never be afraid to walk away" and "it's OK to ask for help" to name but two), but seven it had to be, so seven it is. Maybe, if it's popular enough, I can come back and do the sequel.
