Time Out

This won't come as a surprise to...well, anyone, given, y'know, *gestures wildly* everything, but this year so far is...taking a toll on me.

I'm not comfortable admitting this in such a public way, but I'm struggling with a few things at the minute, and I really need some time out to recalibrate and figure some stuff out, but my usual way of doing this - buggering off somewhere on my own for a day or so - is off the table, given the whole "social distancing" thing, so I'm pretty much stuck with nothing but myself, the TV and the internet.

So, I'm going to take some advice from a friend and spend some time away from social media. As I was told, it's important to understand what's going on, but there's just so much...crap floating around online, it can easily become difficult to know what's right and what's just, y'know, nonsense.

I've caught myself pouring over Twitter continuously since the weekend, looking for... Well, I don't actually know what. News, I guess - although, seeing how much everyone is determined to analyse and offer their own opinions on the governments responses to what's going on, just adds to the aforementioned problem.

I just can't stay away from the site/app, and it's getting to a point where I can't seem to do anything else. Continually refreshing my timeline is becoming my entire reason for existence, it seems.

And that's going to have to stop, if only for the sake of my mental health.

On Wednesday, I kept my Twitter usage to a minimum (and Instagram, too, although, my TL on there is a far more calm space), and I...actually felt better. I got some work done on a proposal, did some script tweaks and also had some good, solid thinking time.

And, I think it's going to be like that even more, going forward.
My social media usage has become pretty passive anyway, so stepping away from everything is not really a big deal for me, and it's a good excuse to finally readjust my RSS feeds.

And, y'know, I just renewed my domain name, so I should probably get some use out of it by being around here more...
